The Ahrensberg is around 570  m above sea level. NHN high western foothills of the Hohen Gras ( 614.8  m ) in the Hohen Habichtswald , a part of the Habichtswälder mountains . It is located near Ehlen in the northern Hessian district of Kassel ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Ahrensberg rises in the Habichtswald Nature Park . Its summit is in the area of ​​the municipality of Habichtswald in the Kassel district , 2.7 km southeast of the Ehlen district , 2.5 km north of the Hoof district of Schauenburg and 1.1 km (as the crow flies ) west of the Hohen Gras ; between the latter and the Ahrensberg is the Uhlenstein .

The “Vordere Bauna”, the right or north-western source stream of the Fulda inflow Bauna, rises south below the Ahrensberg plateau . The Baunapfad begins at this source, the “Baunaquelle” .

On and around the wooded Ahrensberg a part of the former is location training area Ehlen among others shooting .

Natural allocation

The Ahrensberg belongs to the main natural unit group West Hessisches Berg- und Senkenland (No. 34), in the main unit Habichtswälder Bergland (342) and in the subunit Hoher Habichtswald and Langenberg (342.0) to the natural area Hoher Habichtswald (342.00). To the south the landscape drops into the natural area Hoofer Pforte (342.01) and to the west into the natural area Zierenberger Grund (342.11), which belongs to the subunit Habichtswälder Senke (342.1 ).

Watershed

A section of the long Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser watershed runs over the Ahrensberg with the Diemel-Fulda watershed : the water of all the streams that flow from the mountain in western directions reaches the Weser through the Warme and Diemel ; on the other hand, that of the Bauna, which flows from the Ahrensberg in a predominantly southeastern direction, reaches the Fulda and then into the Weser.
