Location of the municipality of Nieste in the Kassel district | ||
Nieste is a municipality and a state-approved resort in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .
geography
Geographical location
Nieste is located in the Nieste valley on the western slope of the Kaufunger Forest , about twelve kilometers east of the center of Kassel . Its district extends along the Nieste to a length of about 7.5 km, whereby the width of the district upstream of the location corresponds in principle to the width of the forest-free valley floodplain and is therefore usually no more than 100 m. To the west of Nieste, the district spreads above the Niestetal around the approximately 355 m above sea level. NN high Gerholdsberg at least about 1.5 km to the south. The built-up location, however, lies like a bridgehead on the only part of the district of significant size north of the Nieste and is prevented from further expansion on all sides by the Lower Saxony state border. Nieste is on the German Fairy Tale Route , which leads from Hanau to Bremen .
Nieste only includes the district of the same name (Gmk.-Nr. 61554) and, along with Bad Salzschlirf, is the only municipality in the Kassel administrative district without districts. With 4.05 km² it is the smallest municipality in Hesse in terms of area.
Neighboring communities
Nieste borders in the north on the municipality of Staufenberg (in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony ), in the south on the non- parish district of Kaufunger Wald ( Werra-Meißner district ) and the municipality of Kaufungen , and in the west on the municipality of Niestetal (both in the district of Kassel) .
history
The oldest surviving written reference as de Nieste points in the year 1293. In another nomination Nieste is called in the year 1019, then Bardo was from Sichelnstein to Kaufungen on the road when he on the border of his possession a chapel of St. Anna , and had an inn built. Pilgrimages were made there every two years, and in 1306, Landgrave Heinrich von Hessen and Duke Albrecht von Braunschweig built a few houses there. The resulting village was named Nyste (new site). A noble family from Nieste is documented during the 13th century, so in 1290 the brothers Engelfried and Heimbert, as well as Hermann and Conrad von Nyste are named. Hermann was councilor in Münden in 1289 and 1301, and Conrad in 1323 . It was also Hermann who donated the altar in the church in Gimte in 1289 . In the contract of 1536 Nieste belonged to the Landgraviate of Hesse and the Brunswick principality of Calenberg in equal parts. Only the church has not been divided. In 1831 the Kingdom of Hanover ceded half of it to the Electorate of Hesse .
In 2010, a state treaty was signed between Hesse and Lower Saxony to swap 51 parcels of land in the Escherode district , which border the locality of Nieste, with 6 parcels of the municipality of Nieste near the locality of Dahlheim . The areas to be exchanged are each 14.48 hectares in size. The background to this change in boundary was that the entire sports facilities as well as the district school gym and the rain retention basin of the Nieste community were built on land in the Staufenberg community area. This created problems of responsibility for the municipalities. Residents were not affected by the change in border. The State Treaty entered into force on June 1, 2011 after the documents of ratification had been deposited .

coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality of Nieste shows in a red crenellated shield head to three pinnacles, the outer edges of which emerge from the edge of the shield, a silver scythe leaf, under the shield head in a wavy cut-like shield with silver and green diagonally divided shields above and below in confused colors each a beech branch pulled out of the wave division to three sheets.
The scythe leaf and the battlements point to the former Sensenstein Castle in the area of today's municipality . The two three-leaved beech branches are symbols for the location of the municipality between the Kaufunger Wald nature reserve and the Münden nature reserve. The wave cut stands for the eponymous brook "Nieste".
