Culture and sights

Sichelnstein Castle

Sichelnstein has an old town center. The high wall remains of the Sichelnstein castle ruin are impressive. Festive activities take place in the castle grounds from time to time.

In addition to the castle ruins, which are often used in summer, with a roofed open-air stage and roofed spectator seats (roofing for spectators purchased by the Sichelnstein Local Authority and Tourist Office), Sichelnstein has other attractions.

A park-like water treading facility was created above Sichelnstein on Staufenbergstrasse / Kreisstrasse 222. Here you can linger in resting places by the pond or use the water treading basin.

The historic Tönningsborn is on Brunnenstrasse. This former spring well, which used to be used by the Sichelnsteiners as a drinking water extraction point, was extensively repaired by the Sichelnstein Local Authority and Tourist Office.

The sports and leisure area of the district is located above Herzogstraße on the edge of the forest. There the shooting club Sichelnstein 1952 eV built a large shooting house, which can also be used for celebrations.

The sports club has also found its home in the neighborhood. Next to the sports field is the club house of VfL Sichelnstein 1967 eV

To the right of the sports field is the area of the Association for German Shepherds and the riding arena of the Kaufunger Wald riding and driving club.

A riding hall, which is also located on the leisure area, rounds off the sporting offer.

From Sichelnstein you can go on excursions and hikes in the Münden Nature Park. From the air you can see the area, because above Sichelnstein has Luftsportverein Munden / Staufenberg the airfield Staufenberg built on the Great Staufenberg. Often at the weekend, interested parties can explore the beauty of the landscape by glider with an experienced pilot.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Sichelnstein shows a marble column in the middle, which is flanked by two sickles. The coat of arms was already used by the Lords of Sichelnstein at the time of Heinrich the Finkler . He allowed the noble Witilo von Sichelnstein, after he had proven his bravery at the Battle of Riyadh, to wear his coat of arms in yellow from now on, as well as to provide it with two sickles and a marble column. In later times the coat of arms was used by both the Sichelnstein and Münden offices; the background color changed from yellow to red.
