geography

The place is located on an extensive meadow and arable area between the forests of the Kaufunger Wald in the Münden Nature Park . Above or only a few kilometers northeast of the Nieste valley , Nienhagen is located between 250 and 300 m altitude, just a little east of Kassel . It is located on the Ingelheimbach, a right tributary of the Nieste.

A tourist attraction of Nienhagen is the 2.5 km long barefoot path , which is located southeast of the village in the forest.

history

The first mention Nienhagens took place on May 7, 1351, as Duke Ernst I the knight Otto von Holthusen and his sons Hermann and Otto with a Burglehn endows on the castle Munden and with half the village Nygen Haghen at Escherode invested . The knight's widow Otto and his son Otto subsequently sold the castle loan and half the village of Nienhagen with the Duke's approval to the brothers Hermann and Conrad Waldschmidt von Imbsen on March 17, 1371 for 23 marks of solder. In 1551 the mill was built on Ingelheimbach, in 1867 a new church was built.

Similar to other villages in the Münden district, pottery used to be an important industry. The clay was mined from the Steinberg , the plates, pots and cups made were often shipped down the Weser. The town had 29 inhabitants around 1700, this number grew to 299 by 1867 and reached 332 in 1875. On January 1, 1973 Nienhagen was incorporated into the new municipality of Staufenberg.
