Benterode is a district of the municipality of Staufenberg in southern Lower Saxony , district of Göttingen ( Germany ).

geography

The place is about nine kilometers (as the crow flies ) east of Kassel, not far from the border with Hesse, southwest of the northern foothills of the Kaufunger Forest in the Münden Nature Park . It is located on a hill above the valley of the Nieste and is traversed by the Wellebach, a right or northern tributary of the Nieste.

history

The first mention of Benterode, at the Wellebach, took place in 811 through a certificate from Charlemagne . This is now stored in the Bavarian Main State Archives in Munich. Charlemagne confirms to Count Bennit I (Bennicho) the possession of the clearing settlements that his father, Billing Amelung I , established in the Kaufunger Wald. The place name Benterode still reminds of Bennit today. The place once owned a brewery and the right to brew . On April 30, 1319 Otto von Hunt (called Hund, dictus Hunt, dictus Canis) pledged his village Benterode with all rights and benefits for 30 marks of pure silver to Thilo, Conrad and Hermann called von Berlepsch. Around 1700 there were 61 residents in Benterode, in 1867 the number grew to 385, while in 1871 there were 377 residents who lived in 78 residential buildings and had founded 81 households. In 1787 a new village church was built after the previous building was classified as dilapidated. At that time the preacher always traveled from the neighboring town of Landwehrhagen .

On January 1, 1973, Benterode was incorporated into the new municipality of Staufenberg.
