The center of Helsa is about 15 km (as the crow flies ) southeast of Kassel's city ​​center in the Frau-Holle-Land geo-nature park (Werra Valley, Meissner, Kaufunger Wald) . history

The core town of Helsa was probably created when the Kaufungen Monastery was founded in 1017 by Empress Kunigunde . In 1058 "Helsen" was first mentioned in a document. A pastor was mentioned for the first time in 1432. Landgrave Karl settled 55 Huguenots in his own colony in 1699. Close relationships were established with the Kaufungen monastery at the time, as the monastery had the lower jurisdiction in the place and appointed the community leaders (the so-called collegiate graves).

Church building

On December 1, 1970 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the communities of Helsa and Wickenrode voluntarily merged to form the community of Helsa-Wickenrode . With the merger, Wickenrode moved from the district of Witzenhausen to the district of Kassel .
