Münden , Kassel , Göttingen or on the national road  561 coming from Hemeln or Oberweser. The Weserradweg leads through the village.

history

Gimte was first mentioned in a document as a Gemmet in 970 and was given to Hilwartshausen Monastery . Components of this donation were, among other things, rights and ownership over land, arable land, fields, meadows, forests, pasture land, bodies of water, mills, roads, customs duties and fishing rights. Finds from prehistoric times show that the area around Gimte was settled thousands of years ago. For example, between 1950 and 1960, partial skeletons were discovered in the nearby Ballertasche near the gravel pit. The monastery was closed around the Reformation , but from then on bailiffs were to manage the monastery property until the manor districts were dissolved in 1928. Since that time Hilwartshausen has been part of Gimte. For centuries, until the 1960s, rafting and fishing on the Weser was an important line of business in Gimte. Other areas of acquisition were the timber trade and linen weaving .

On January 1, 1973 Gimte was incorporated into the city of Münden.

Culture and sights

Gimte maintains a partnership with the town of Sannois (near Paris / France).

The Marien Church in Gimte, built in 1006, is a cycle path church on the Weser cycle path and an open church . The church today consists of two departments, different in height and width. The choir is housed in the lower part , this section formerly belonged to the old Marien Chapel, which the Hilwartshausen monastery built in 1006 and three linden trees were planted on the east side. A decree of Archbishop Peter von Mainz from 1318, as well as a letter of indulgence from 1336 mention the Gimter Marienkapelle. In the latter letter to all visitors is Capelle Dicte Gymmeth a drain granted. From 1610 to 1612 the larger western part of the church was built. The old stained glass on the church windows with the coats of arms and biblical representations, including a life-size image of Christ, are no longer available today. The stone altar with the inscription Hanc aram fecit Hermann de Neste parari on three sides ; Munus ei petimus Christe, perenne dari! carries, thus refers to the donor of the altar, a Hermann von Nyste , who is listed as a councilor of Münden in 1289.

There are two sports clubs in town, on the one hand the TuSpo "Weser" Gimte and on the other hand the 1. FC Gimte. TuSpo was founded in 1919, 1. FC in 1994. TuSpo operates the fields of football, badminton, table tennis, children's gymnastics, gymnastics and various leisure sports. 1. FC Gimte is active in football, martial arts and volleyball.
