The village is via the federal road 3 leading through the village from the directions of Hann. Münden, Kassel and Göttingen can be reached. The through hiking trail Frau-Holle -pfad and the Weser-Harz-Heide-Radfernweg also run through it .

history

Volkmarshausen was in 8./9. Century AD mentioned as Folcmareshusen in the Fulda traditions, which are passed down through the copy of the Codex Eberhardi .

Two other old documents are also used as the first mention of Volkmarshausen: In 997, Emperor Otto III. bequeathed a farm in Volkmarshusen to the nearby Hilwartshausen monastery . The town's anniversary celebration also referred to this certificate. According to the Lower Saxony place-name book, however, this document does not exist. Another document, sometimes assigned to Volkmarshausen, with which Otto III. - also in 997 - a king's hoof in Uuosthalmeshusun gave away to Thietburg, the sister of Bishop Bernwards von Hildesheim , refers to the Gunthelmishusen deserted area in the Friedland community according to the place name book . The next documentary mention, dated to the year 1019, is a forgery from the end of the 11th century and handed down the place name as Uolcmereshuson . In the years 1289 and 1321 a Conradus des Volcmershusen was named in writing.

Because the place was on the lower reaches of the Schede, a relatively large amount of water was available. A beater and oil mill, a fulling mill and two "grinding bowls", which safely used the water of the Schede, are documented as early as the 16th century. The location on the neighboring mountains also enabled the Volkmarshäuser to use the forests for logging and as pasture for cattle. In contrast, flax was grown in the flatter terrain west of the village. The head tax description from 1689 names many of the 166 Volkmarshäuser as linen weavers . From the mill on the north-eastern outskirts, a paper mill and later a bundled paper factory developed. At this point, further industrial companies settled which still shape the townscape today.

On January 1, 1973, the previously independent community of Volkmarshausen was incorporated into the city of Münden.

Christ Church Volkmarshausen

religion

Volkmarshausen did not have its own church until the Second World War. The residents first went to the church of the Hilwartshausen monastery, from 1612 to the Marienkapelle in Gimte. After 1945 some Lutheran Christians from the eastern areas of the former German Empire gathered in Volkmarshausen and founded the Christ Church in Volkmarshausen. Your church, built in 1955, is the only church building in Volkmarshausen. The parish belongs to the parish of Göttingen (Martin Luther parish) in the parish of Lower Saxony-South of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church . The rectangular building under a gable roof is plastered in white. It carries an open, white painted wooden roof turret with a bell.

Since 1999 there has been a newly founded Protestant free church in the village, which has moved into the former “Schedetal” inn. Founded as “Free Christian Community Hann. Münden eV ”, the church has been called“ Kraft-Werk-Kirche ”since 2017 and is a federal congregation of the Federation of Free Church Pentecostal Churches (BFP) . An extension was inaugurated in 2017, which now offers space for up to 200 visitors.
