history
The place originated in the first half of the 14th century. It was first mentioned in 1352. On August 4, 1354, it was raised to town under the name Alta ciuitas . The town belonged to the Waldstein family at Nístějka Castle and was the ruler's trading center. Gold and other metals were mined in the area. The abundance of forests led to the establishment of charcoal burners. A glassworks was also built. Hochstadt soon gained privileges that extended to blood jurisdiction. During the battles between George of Podebrady and Matthias Corvinus for the Bohemian crown, Nístějka Castle and Hochstadt were destroyed. The castle remained desolate; Hochstadt lost its importance and sank down to the market. During the Thirty Years War Hochstadt suffered damage from Swedish troops. A new upswing began in the second half of the 18th century. This also led to a high cultural level and the establishment of an amateur theater in 1786.
On July 29, 1834, a devastating city fire destroyed the wooden town hall and 142 houses. The two church bells melted and the documents and city registers burned.
Hochstadt belonged to the Semil rule until the patrimonial rule was replaced .
