The Trutnov – Svoboda nad Úpou railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Austrian Northwest Railway (ÖNWB). It begins in Trutnov ( Trautenau ) and leads in the valley of the Úpa ( Aupa ) to Svoboda nad Úpou ( freedom ).
According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.
history
The route was opened on December 17, 1871.
After the nationalization of the ÖNWB, the line was transferred to the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB) on January 1, 1908 . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took their place .
After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . In the Reich curriculum, the connection was now included as KBS 155f, Ruhbank and Merzdorf (Rsgb) –Landeshut – Königshan (–Schatzlar) –Trautenau (–Freiheit-Johannisbad) –Pelsdorf (–Marchdorf [Böhmen]) - Hohenelbe. After the end of the Second World War , the line came back to the ČSD.
Since December 12, 1997, the route has been operated by the private railway company Viamont , now GW Train Regio .
The 2008 timetable provides for a total of 17 pairs of daily passenger trains that run at approximately one hour intervals . Today freight trains only run for a coal and scrap dealership in Kalná Voda.
Nowadays, the route is operated at approximately one hour intervals on weekdays and every two hours on weekends and public holidays .

In Trutnov hlavní nadraží ( Trutnov Central Station ) there is a connection to the trains to Chlumec nad Cidlinou , Jaroměř and Žacléř .
Trutnov-Zelená Louka
The Trutnov-Zelená Louka stop was only set up in the 1990s for the residents of the new building area there.
Trutnov-Staré město (1919: Staré Město Horní / Upper Old Town ; 1939: Upper Old Town )
The Trutnov-Staré město stop is located in the Horní Staré Město district of Trutnov ( Upper Old Town ).
Kalná Voda (1919: Kalná Voda / Trübenwasser ; 1939: Trübenwasser )
Kalná Voda station is the only station on the route that is still used for freight traffic. The station's loading street is rented to a coal and scrap dealer.
Mladé Buky (1919: Buky Mladé / Jungbuch ; 1939: Jungbuch )
The Mladé Buky stop was established when the line opened.
Svoboda nad Úpou (1919: Vrajt-Janské Lázně / Freedom-Johannisbad ; 1939: Freiheit-Johannisbad )
Svoboda nad Úpou station is the end of the line. There is a public transport interface for intercity bus services to the places in the Giant Mountains directly at the station. An earlier industrial track to the factories in Horní Maršov no longer exists.
Vehicle use
Today, GW Train Regio's train traffic is handled exclusively with the proven two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 .
