The canal runs parallel to the river about three kilometers north of the Elbe .

history

The watercourse, originally known as Lánský kanál, was built around 1450 under George of Podebrady and served as the main inflow for the up to 996 hectare large fish pond Bláto, also called Blato or Plato , which belongs to the Poděbrady rule and which Bohuslav Balbín describes as the largest in Bohemia has been. In addition to the irrigation of Blato the channel was also for driving three mills, the bag mill (Mlýnek) ( 50 ° 9 '  N , 15 ° 12'  O ) , the Neumuehle (Nove Mlýny) ( 50 ° 9 '  N , 15 ° 11 ′  E ) near Odřepsy and the Lazarus Mill (Lazarův Mlýn) in Pátek ( 50 ° 10 ′  N , 15 ° 10 ′  E ) .

In the 16th century a side canal was cut east of Odřepsy near the bag mill. Together with this course, known as Nový kanál (New Canal), the Sánský kanál fed twelve fish ponds. At the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, all ponds were drained, although the soil was not used for agricultural purposes until after the amelioration because of its swamp .

In 1930, the lower section of the canal was relocated from Křečkov straight to Mrlina. The original course went from here to the west, so that the canal passed the Poděbradka mineral well and flowed into the Elbe above Kovanice ( 50 ° 11 ′  N , 15 ° 5 ′  E ) .
