Haugwitz is the name of a widely ramified old noble family from Meißnischen . Since the Middle Ages, the Lords of Haugwitz were resident in Saxony , Silesia , Bohemia , Moravia , the County of Glatz, as well as in Lusatia and later in East Prussia . They are related to the von Rechenberg family and their coat of arms .

history

The Haugwitz originally came from Saxony. Legends trace the origin back to the Frankish nobility at the time of the Carolingians . They first appear in a document in 1225 with Sifridus de Hugwitz and begin their trunk series in 1474 with Matthäus von Haugwitz .

Today's Haubitz near Borna is assumed to be the headquarters , which was first mentioned in a document as Hugewicz in 1350 . Relatively close to this is Haubitz near Grimma , which is also associated with the Haugwitzen.

In Moravia the Haugwitz u. a. the Bouzov and the rule Biskupitz . The Moravian branches of the family, who settled in Namiest ( Náměšť nad Oslavou Castle ) and Kojetín , were made counts in the 18th century. In 1797 this line acquired the rule of Ossowa and Rojetin . Today representatives of the count's line live in Germany, Austria, Canada and the USA. Castle Namiest is after 1989 to the family restituted Service.

In Silesia , the von Haugwitz family owned the Lehnhaus Castle near the Lower Silesian town of Lähn am Bober (today Wleń ) and the Counts' line owned the Krappitz estate and estate until 1945 . Schlawa Castle also belonged to the family from 1886 to 1945.

In East Prussia , the family owned some estates in Heinrichswalde (today Slawsk ), where mainly Trakehner were bred.

Possessions in the county of Glatz

Ancestral seat of the family branch in the County of Glatz, which came from Bohemia, was the Oberpischkowitz estate, which belonged to the Pischkowitz estate and was mentioned in 1361 as "Biskupicz". Its first owner known by name was Otto von Haugwitz in 1346, who was married to Gertrud von Pannwitz and thus came to Friedersdorf . The members of this branch of the family held numerous royal and imperial offices. Wenzel von Haugwitz was from 1441 to 1454 sub-captain of the Glatzer provincial governor Hynek Kruschina von Lichtenburg . Heinrich von Haugwitz held the office of administrator at the provincial governorate from 1686 to 1691 and Franz Anton von Haugwitz was provincial governor from 1741 to 1742.

Other possessions in the County of Glatz included Birgwitz , Dürrkunzendorf , Gabersdorf , Gellenau , Hausdorf , Koritau , Möhlten , Niedersteine and Tuntschendorf .
