Georg von Haugwitz († October 1, 1463 in Zeitz ) was bishop of Naumburg in 1463 . He held high ecclesiastical offices and was Chancellor of Frederick the Meek.

Georg came from the von Haugwitz family . Due to a transmission error, the predecessor Peter von Schleinitz was more often assigned to this family than Peter von Haugwitz by authors. He studied in Leipzig. Then he was in the service of Albrecht III. of Saxony-Wittenberg . In 1424 he appears as a familiar to Archbishop Bartolomeo Capra of Milan . As a follower of the Wettins , efforts were made in 1431 to be appointed bishop of Merseburg , where he could not assert himself against Johann II. Bose von Ammendorf and Ermlitz . In 1436 he was secretary, immediately afterwards Chancellor of Frederick the Meek, and thus made a significant contribution to the administrative reform in Electoral Saxony. He appeared on various occasions in spiritual positions. He was u. a. Canon in Naumburg, later also in Meißen. He died just 12 days after being elected bishop. His grave can be found in the Zeitz collegiate church, his bronze tombstone has been preserved.

In 1461 Georg I von Haugwitz was elected by Elector Friedrich II a. a. enfeoffed with Seifersdorf near Radeberg .
