Dietrich III. von Bocksdorf (also Boxdorf, Bogsdorf, Buxtorff, Bucksdorff, Buchesdorf, Buckenstorff, Buckensdorf, Buckinsdorff) (* in Zinnitz ; † March 9, 1466 in Zeitz ) was rector of the University of Leipzig in 1439 and bishop of Naumburg from 1463 to 1466 .

Life

Dietrich III. came from the noble von Bocksdorf family . Zinnitz Castle also belonged to the family . He first studied in Leipzig and continued his legal studies in Perugia . As rector of the University of Leipzig , he tried to reform from 1439 and was probably involved in the formulation of the oldest statutes of the law faculty. Dietrich III. was a wealthy person: In addition to his family property, he received income from his work at the university and also from benefices . He was also very active as a lawyer, arbitrator and consultant. In the negotiations of the Kunz von Kauffungenwith the elector Friedrich II. , who preceded the Saxon prince robbery, he took an influential position in favor of the elector as legal advisor and judge. In 1448 he bought a piece of land in the city of Leipzig . The building he built at Burgstrasse 19, later part of the Thüringer Hof , was one of the city's most important architectural monuments and was destroyed in the Second World War.

With the support of the Saxon Elector Friedrich II , he was elected Bishop of Naumburg, where he had been a canon since 1445 . There was a permanent close relationship with the Wettins .

He died of a stroke in the early afternoon of March 9, 1466 . Preparations were made to bury him in Zeitz, and finally he found his burial place in Naumburg Cathedral . Parts of his bronze grave plate have been preserved.
