Ernst Ludwig Alfred von Haugwitz (born July 18, 1854 in Breslau ; † January 31, 1924 ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Alfred came from the Meissen noble family von Haugwitz . He was the son of a Prussian captain and his wife, a born von Tschirschky and Bögendorff .

Military career

Haugwitz graduated from the Cadet Corps and on October 18, 1871, joined the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . From 1875 he acted as an adjutant of the 1st Battalion and was transferred to the 1st Guard Regiment on foot in mid-August 1878 . Here Haugwitz advanced to prime lieutenant in September 1880 and worked as a regimental adjutant in 1881/83. This was followed by his transfer as an adjutant to the 1st Guard Infantry Brigade and on April 21, 1883 Haugwitz was ordered to serve with the General Staff for one year . He was then transferred to the General Staff of the Army and a few days later he was assigned to the General Staff of the VI. Army Corps . Haugwitz was promoted to captain there in July 1884 and joined the General Staff of the 9th Division in Glogau on April 17, 1886 . Haugwitz was appointed commander of the Hauptkadettenanstalt on May 20, 1897 and promoted to colonel on May 24, 1898 . From April 18, 1900 to December 17, 1901, he acted as the commander of the 4th Guards Regiment on foot , in order to then take over command of the 34th Infantry Brigade in Schwerin while being promoted to major general . After Haugwitz was promoted to lieutenant general on January 27, 1906 , he was appointed commander of the 9th Division on April 10, 1906. Haugwitz was promoted to general of the infantry on March 12, 1910, as inspector general of military education and at the same time as deputy to the president of the Reich Military Court. In approval of his leave request , he was on 3 March 1914, the statutory pension for disposition while à la suite made the fourth Guards on foot.

During the First World War , Haugwitz was re-used as a zD officer and acted from August 1914 to June 1917 as the commanding general of the deputy general command of the XI. Army Corps in Kassel . On the occasion of the abolition of his mobilization provision , Kaiser Wilhelm II honored him by awarding him the crown to the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order with Oak Leaves.
