August Adolph von Haugwitz

August Adolph von Haugwitz (born May 14, 1647 at Gut Uebigau in Upper Lusatia , † September 27, 1706 at Neschwitz Castle near Bautzen ) was a German poet and dramatist of the Baroque period .

Life

Haugwitz came from the Lausitz land nobility. On October 28, 1665, he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg to study law , especially constitutional law. His earliest, long unprinted dramas go back to his student days. In his first drama Soliman he proves to be the epigone of Andreas Gryphius . In 1669 he went on an educational trip to Paris , where his courtly comedy Flora was written. Hoffmannswaldau was his adored role model in poetry .
