Georg Freiherr von Brandis
Georg Freiherr von Brandis (* 1948 in Hamburg ) is a German officer , most recently major general . In his last assignment, he was head of the Bundeswehr Military Counterintelligence Service in Cologne from February 2008 to January 2010 .
Life
Georg Freiherr von Brandis joined the Bundeswehr in 1967 and was initially a member of the 134 tank battalion in Wetzlar . In 1968 he began his officer training with Panzergrenadierbataillon 142 in Koblenz .
In 1970 he was platoon leader in the anti-aircraft aircraft company 270 in Munster . 1974 was followed by a staff using the Parachute Battalion 272 in Wildeshausen , where he 1975 company commander was. This was followed in 1978 by a staff assignment at the Paratrooper Battalion 271 in Iserlohn . From 1970 to 1981 he was trained as an officer in the general staff service at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . In 1981 he was employed in the staff of the 16 Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Wentorf near Hamburg .
From 1983 to 1986 Brandis used the Federal Intelligence Service on time. In 1986 he became deputy military attaché in Washington, DC and then in 1989 commander of the Paratrooper Battalion 262 in Merzig .
From 1991 to 1994 he was a consultant at the Federal Ministry of Defense (FüS II) in Bonn . In 1994 there was another change to the Federal Intelligence Service, where he held the post of head of department . From 1998 he was employed as a staff officer in the II. German-American Corps in Ulm and in 2000 became head of division in the command staff of the armed forces in Bonn. From 2002 to 2005 he was permanent representative of the President of the Military Counterintelligence Service.
From October 4, 2005 to the end of February 2008, von Brandis was Vice President for Military Affairs of the Federal Intelligence Service, before taking over as head of the military counterintelligence service at the end of his career.
