Nikolaus Izsó
Nikolaus Izsó [ischo] ( Hungarian : Izsó Miklós ; born September 9, 1831 in Disznóshorvát ; † May 29, 1875 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian sculptor .
Izsó studied in Sárospatak , became Honvéd and, following his inclination, apprenticed to the sculptor István Ferenczy after the lost battle of Világos , then worked with Hanns Gasser in Vienna and later went to Munich , where he presented the statuette of the mourning shepherd established its reputation.
Returning to Pest , he was commissioned to make the statue for the monument of the poet Csokonai in Debreczin , which task he successfully completed. He made various portrait busts with sharply defined national characteristics as well as a number of models for statuettes of national genre and left behind the almost finished model for the Petőfi monument, which was erected in Pest.
