Eugen Wilhelm Graf Haugwitz (born November 16, 1777 in Brno , † November 4, 1867 in Vienna ) was an Austrian general and knight of the Military Maria Theresa Order .

Life

Born as the son of General Karl Wilhelm Graf Haugwitz (1736–1819) and his wife Countess Maria Josepha von Frankenberg , who also took care of his upbringing. He joined the army in 1793 as an ensign and in 1799 was taken over as first lieutenant in the quartermaster's staff. He was promoted to captain on November 1, 1801, and to major in the corps on September 1, 1805, and in 1808 came to the 5th border regiment as a lieutenant colonel, but before there he returned to the corps on March 16, 1809. In 1809 he was promoted to colonel because of his excellent behavior on the battlefield . In 1813 he was promoted to major general . In the same year he distinguished himself as brigade commander in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig through courage and cold-bloodedness and received the Knight's Cross of the Maria Theresa Order . The following year he fought in France and was wounded at St. Georges. In 1815 he fought against Joachim Murat in Italy and was commandant of Naples from 1815 to 1817 . In 1821 he took part in the intervention against Naples. In 1824 he became the owner of Infantry Regiment No. 38 and in 1827 Lieutenant Field Marshal . Knight of the Teutonic Order as early as 1808 , he was appointed Landkomtur der Ballei Austria in 1835 . In 1835 he also received the dignity of a privy councilor .
