Castle Náměšť nad Oslavou (German Namiest on the Oslawa) is located in Náměšť nad Oslavou in Okres Třebíč , Czech Republic . The chateau was built in 1565–1578 through the reconstruction of a Gothic castle , at a time when building and renovation were busy in Bohemia and Moravia . At that time the owners were the lords of Žerotín . The Zierotin collected books and prints and set up a printing house in Namiest, which became known for the first Czech grammar and the Kralitz Bible (a Czech translation of the Bible from 1579 to 1601).

Charles the Elder of Žerotín sold the rule to his brother-in-law Albrecht von Wallenstein , who then sold it on to the court chancellor Johann Baptist Verda von Verdenberg , who was made Count of Namiest in 1630. The Sala Terrena was frescoed by Carpoforo Tencalla . The eldest daughter of Verdenberg was married to Adrian von Enkevort , which is why Namiest later came to the Enckevort family .

In 1752 the rule passed to the Counts Haugwitz . The towns of Namiescht and Groß Bittesch , the market Mohelno and 50 villages with approx. 9000 inhabitants belonged to the county of Namiescht ; connected were the goods Batauchowitz and Hermannschlag in the Iglauer Kreis. The acquirer, Friedrich Wilhelm von Haugwitz , was from 1753 supreme Bohemian chancellor and at the same time first Austrian chancellor under Empress Maria Theresa. His grandson Heinrich Wilhelm (1770–1842) arranged operas and oratorios by Gluck, Mozart, Salieri and Handel and performed them with his own orchestra and choir (with 64 musicians). The last owner until 1945, Count Heinrich (1901–1966), built up a network during the war to provide financial support for Czech families persecuted by the German occupiers. Nevertheless, he was expelled and expropriated as an alleged German sympathizer.

After 1945, President Edvard Beneš used the castle as a summer residence for several years. Today Náměšť Castle belongs to the Counts of Haugwitz again after the Czech government returned numerous (expensive to maintain) aristocratic residences to their original owners in the course of restitution .

Náměšť is famous for its extensive tapestry collection , which includes some valuable pieces. Most of the tapestries date from the 17th and 18th centuries, and some exhibits are even older. The former dining room and the richly equipped palace library are also remarkable. On the bridge over the Oslava there are twenty larger than life sandstone figures of saints and angels, which Josef Winterhalder the Elder created in 1737 on behalf of the lord Adrian Graf von Enkevoirt.
