Roštejn Castle

The Roštejn Castle (German Rosenstein ) is located six kilometers north of Telč in the Okres Jihlava in the Czech Republic . Due to its location on a rocky headland, it offers a good view of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands .

history

The castle was built after 1339 by the brothers Meinhard and Ulrich IV von Neuhaus . The first burgrave was Martin von Mutice ( Mareš z Mutic ). In the 16th century, the castle was converted into a hunting lodge by Zacharias von Neuhaus .

In the former living rooms there is now an exhibition of contemporary porcelain, pewter, hunting weapons, furniture and earthenware . The walls of the coat of arms hall are decorated with coats of arms from the 17th century. The Botanical Hall contains pictures of plants from the 19th century and a large carved Christmas crib. The 53 meter high heptagonal Gothic tower is still accessible today.
