The ruins of Aueršperk Castle (also Aušperk Castle ; German Auersperg Castle ; Ausperg ) is located one kilometer northwest of Dvořiště in Okres Žďár nad Sázavou in the Czech Republic .
geography
The hilltop castle is located in the Nedvědická vrchovina hills in the southern part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands on a wooded rock spur in a bend of the Bystřice river .
history
The name of the castle is derived from the aurochs and has no reference to the Austrian noble family Auersperg . The owners were the lords of Pernstein , who named themselves after the castle from Auersperg and von Ausperg and had the aurochs in their coat of arms.
The castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1325 as the property of the Emmeram / Jimram von Auersperg. In 1403 it was described as desolate.
description
The castle was protected on three sides by the Bystřice and in the south by a dry moat 13 meters deep . The keep was ten meters in diameter. A courtyard belonged to the castle and the village of Dvořiště was later laid out in the corridors.
During excavations in the first half of the 20th century, castle cellars were uncovered. Remains of the keep and walls are still preserved .
