The Castle Ledeč nad Sázavou is located in Ledeč nad Sázavou in okres Havlíčkův Brod in the Czech Republic .
history
The place name Ledeč was first mentioned in written sources in 1257. The local Vladiken family , the lords of Ledeč, founded the village of the same name in the 14th century and probably built a Gothic castle with a 32 meter high keep on a rock above the Sázava river as early as the beginning of the 14th century .
In the 16th century the castle was already very dilapidated. In 1506, the castle mistress Sophie broke through a ceiling while dancing. She and her two sons died in the accident. The next owner, Zdeněk Meziříčský from Lomnice, had the entire area rebuilt in the Renaissance style from 1556 . Later Ledeč belonged alternately to the Trčka von Lípa and the Lobkowitz .
In 1636 Baron Adrian von Enkevort received the castle, who provided it with a new gate and two pentagonal bastions . The Thun made the next extensions at the end of the 17th century. From 1753 the castle belonged to Empress Maria Theresa and during the Seven Years' War it served as a cavalry barracks. In 1763 the Empress donated the building to the Prague monastery of noble ladies .
After a major fire in 1879, the buildings were renovated. Part of the external fortification was destroyed by the construction of the railway in 1903. Eight years later, a part was converted into a museum. The castle has been owned by the state since 1936. It belongs to the Czech state forest enterprise. The rooms are used as offices and apartments.
