Břežany II , until 1960 Břežany , ( German Breschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers northwest of Český Brod and belongs to the Okres Kolín .
geography
Břežany II is located at the transition from the Central Bohemian Mountains to the Bohemian Table on the Týnický creek. Chrástnice (258 m) rises to the north. In the south, the railway line runs from Prague to Nymburk , where the Rostoklaty train station is located.
Neighboring towns are Černíky in the northeast, Štolmíř and Nová Ves II in the southeast, Rostoklaty in the south, Tuklaty in the southwest, Tlustovousy in the west and Horoušany and Vyšehořovice in the northwest.
history
The village was first mentioned in writing in 1305.
After the abolition of patrimonial Břežany formed from 1850 a political municipality in the Český Brod district . Since 1961 belongs to the community kolín district and contributes to distinguish it from the homonymous municipality Břežany I the official name Břežany II . The place name is derived from the Czech word Brežany meaning slope, bank or break.
