The vehicles of ČD series 471 are electric double-decker - multiple units of the Czech railway company Czech Railways (ČD) for regional traffic. The vehicles are procured in particular as a replacement for the outdated 451/452 series . They are marketed by ČD as CityElefant . According to the EDP numbering plan introduced by ČSD in 1988, the railcars were given the series designation 471, the intermediate cars 071 and the control cars 971.

history

The development began in 1992 by the manufacturers MSV Studénka , later ČKD Vagónka Studénka (mechanical) and AEG (electrical), when, after the negative experience with the 470 series, they decided to redesign. After the privatization of MSV Studénka, AEG was no longer involved in 1994, and the electrical components were developed by Škoda Verkehrstechnik . The two prototype trains of the series were completed in 1997 by a consortium made up of the Czech rail vehicle manufacturers Moravskoslezská vagonka and Škoda Transportation . With them, various new technologies were introduced into Czech rail vehicle construction, such as the production of car bodies from extruded aluminum profiles, the use of sandwich construction , IGBT- controlled inverters , the use of three-phase asynchronous motors , and air conditioning systems . In addition, the units introduced the first class in the S-Bahn. The series vehicles have been in service since 2001. After initially serious technical problems, the operating license was withdrawn on August 5th, 2002. Due to the exceptional situation in Prague associated with the floods in 2002 , a temporary operating permit was granted again on August 16, 2002. This was then valid until October 31, 2002, after which the manufacturer removed the defects. Due to financial problems at ČD, only about six multiple units could be accepted annually. In 2006 production was interrupted for a redesign , which was then presented under the name CityElefant after a competition initiated by ČD . Unit 471 005 was badly damaged in a derailment on June 28, 2010 in Ústí nad Labem . In particular, the leading control car 971 005 was irreparably destroyed.

Meanwhile obsolete plans envisaged the use of a five-part variant of the 471 series as "IC Regio" in fast regional traffic between the metropolitan areas of the Czech Republic. These trains were to be used as the 675 series.

According to an announcement in April 2016, the trains are to be equipped with ETCS .

commitment

The multiple units are mainly used in Prague's high-speed rail traffic on the routes from Prague to Kolín , Ústí nad Labem , Benešov u Prahy and Beroun . As of 2010, Bohumin was also home to twelve vehicles . They are preferably used there at Esko v Moravskoslezském kraji on the highly frequented lines R1 and S1 from Český Těšín to Opava .

Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai

In 2008 and 2010, the Lithuanian state railway Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LG) received a total of four multiple units of the same design from Škoda, which were classified as class 575 by LG. They are used in traffic between the two largest Lithuanian cities, Vilnius and Kaunas . The delivery of five more trains is planned by 2014. In contrast to the 471 series, the Lithuanian trains are designed for the single-phase alternating voltage of 25 kV at 50 Hz used there and are designed in broad gauge (1520 mm).

Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko

In 2010, the Slovakian railway company Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK) acquired a three-part train in a two-system design for overhead line voltages of 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC voltage with 50 Hz. A further nine trains were delivered by 2014. They are used in particular in regional traffic on the inner-Slovak main road between Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Čierna nad Tisou .

Ukrzalisnytsja

The Ukrainian state railway Ukrzalisnyzja acquired two six-car trains for suburban traffic in the greater Kiev area in 2012 on the occasion of the 2012 European Football Championship . The vehicles built for broad gauge with 1520 mm gauge received a two-system equipment for 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC voltage. The Ministry of Infrastructure in Ukraine has an option to deliver another 50 to 60 units.
