The Praha-Vysočany railway station is a railway station in the northeast of the Czech capital Prague . He linked the railway junction Prague the routes Lysa nad Labem-Praha and Praha-Turnov each other.

The station was built by the kk privileged Turnau-Kralup-Prague Railway (TKPE) in the course of the construction of the Neratovice – Prague line between 1868 and 1871. The line went into operation on October 28, 1871.

On June 25, 1870, the kk privileged Österreichische Nordwestbahn received the concession for a route from Lissa (Lysa nad Labem) to Prague. For cost reasons, the route between the later Skalka junction and the Wysočan station was laid parallel to the existing TKPE route. The Wysočan station was extended south of the station building to include the ÖNWB tracks. The line was opened on October 4, 1873.

On January 1, 1883, the TKPE was part of the Bohemian Northern Railway (BNB).

On January 1, 1908, both the ÖNWB and the BNB were nationalized. The owner and operator of the station were now the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). After the establishment of Czechoslovakia as a result of the First World War , the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took its place .

In the course of the electrification of the Prague node in the 1920s, the former TKPE side of the station was also electrified. Electric train operation began on April 27, 1928.

On July 1, 1972, the ČSD stopped the passenger traffic between Praha-Vysočany and the terminus station Praha-Těšnov. On June 3, 1984 the line to Praha-Těšnov was finally closed and dismantled a little later.

Since January 1, 2003, the station has been part of the network of the newly established state railway infrastructure company Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

As part of the expansion of the line between Mstětice and Praha-Vysočany from March 2019 to May 2023, the Praha-Vysočany station is also to be completely renovated. It is planned to build three new platforms with roofing, which should be accessible with lifts and escalators, to build a new platform underpass and to renovate the reception building. The platforms are given a uniform height of 550 mm above the top of the rails.

Location and surroundings

The Praha-Vysočany train station is located in the Vysočany district in the 9th district. The main entrance to the station is on Paříková Street (number 100/13), and there is another entrance through a pedestrian tunnel from U vinných sklepů Street . The nearest metro station is Vysočanská, about 200 meters to the south-east. There is also a transition to the tram and city buses.

The Praha-Vysočany station is an island station in an east-west orientation. To the north of the reception building are the tracks for the Prague hl. n. – Turnov (formerly TKPE), south of the line Lysá nad Labem – Praha-Vysočany (–Praha-Těšnov) (formerly ÖNWB). Several track connections link both track fields. In 2010 they largely correspond to the original condition.

Passengers can only get to the reception building via one of the two passenger tunnels. The accessibility required for public buildings today in the form of elevators or escalators is not given. The entrances to the tracks from the station building are at the same level.

The freight transport facilities are located to the north on the former TKPE side. There is a free loading street and a goods shed.
