The ČD series 854 is a four-axle diesel multiple unit operated by the Czech Railways (ČD) for express and express train traffic on the non-electrified main lines in the Czech Republic. They were created as part of a reconstruction program from vehicles of the 852 series (formerly the M 296.2 series) and 853 (formerly the M 296.1 series).

history

Class 854 railcars at the Novina station

The outdated machinery made a renewal of the vehicles inevitable. In 1997, the ČD car 853.030 was converted by the PARS company in Šumperk . After the reconstruction, the vehicle was given the designation 854.030 and was stationed at MSV in Brno. 50 vehicles were converted between 1997 and 2006. The reconstruction included the renewal of the machine system with engine and gearbox, the passenger compartment and the vehicle's electrics. They received a new Caterpillar engine 3412 E DI-TA, which has better ecological and fuel consumption values and works more reliably than the previous KS 12 V 170 DR. The car received the H 750 M type from ČKD as a gearbox .

Although the interior was completely dismantled during the reconstruction, the layout and vehicle structure of the 852 and 853 series were retained. The seating of the vehicle was changed according to the model of the new 843 multiple unit . In addition, after the reconstruction, the railcar received an automatic door locking device and a display for demand stops . The motor control is implemented via a microprocessor control as an automated regulation of the speed. The brake is also electrically controlled according to the DAKO system.

The reconstructed railcars of the 854 series are intended for passenger use. Express and express train service on high quality non-electrified ČD lines . They carry out the operation especially with the attached 053 series cars. Some cars were and are also being converted to type Bfbrdtn 794 (until January 1, 2009 954.0 ) or ABfbrdtn 795 (until January 1, 2009 954.2 ) control cars, which, however, unlike the railcars, have only one driver's cab. See the web links for the locations where the vehicles are used

The vehicles now have better traction properties, and the travel culture and working conditions for the train driver have been significantly increased.

numbering

Some of the vehicles were given names during the renovation. The former series 853 railcars only received the new series designation 854 and retained their previous serial number. You have two driver's cabs, one of which is equipped with a transition device (example: 854 012 Zuzka ). The former 852s were given a serial number increased by 200 in addition to the new series number (example: 854 209 Gábinka ).
