The ČSD series M 296.1 and M 296.2 (from 1988: series 853, 852 ) are diesel-hydraulic railcars of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) for express and express train services on non-electrified main lines . The vehicles represent a further development of the M 286.0 series railcars built since 1966 (today: 850 series).

history

The railcar was designed in this design for the operation of the “ Vindobona ” express train Berlin – Prague – Vienna. The railcar operated for this purpose from May 1969 to May 1972. A total of 35 units of the railcars were purchased. To complete a train, up to four intermediate cars could be placed between two appropriately rotated motor cars, a larger number of which were delivered for the respective purposes.

technical features

The motor vehicles are powered by the KS 12 V 170 DR engine with an output of 588 kW at 1470 rpm. The power is transmitted via a hydrodynamic three-converter gearbox on two drive axles. Each machine car has two driver's cabs from which other motor cars can also be controlled.

This results in two front parts of the railcar; one front section has a closed car transition with foldable rubber bulges to the coupled sidecar, the other front section is without a transition.

The engine compartment, a toilet and a large room for 48 2nd class passengers are located between the driver's cabs. The 24,790 mm long car body is carried by the two two-axle bogies. The maximum speed is 120 km / h.

commitment

In addition to the operation for the “Vindobona” express, the railcars were used from the outset in high-quality express, passenger and express train services on non-electrified routes, some of which still operate today. Preferred areas of use are the routes around Hradec Králové and Chomutov .
