history

Archaeological finds prove an early settlement of the municipality. These include flint finds from the Mesolithic west of the railroad and remains of an early Bronze Age settlement.

The present village was probably formed during the first phase of colonization in the 12th or 13th century. The first written mention of Hodowicz took place in 1407 as the property of Jan von Vidov , with whose death in 1415 the Vidovpole family died out. His inheritance fell to the master chef Wenceslas IV , Jindřich Kolman von Křikava , who sold Hodowicz together with Vidov in 1418 to Jan Tožice von Tožice. In 1456, Markéta von Ždánice inherited the estate. In 1490 Zdeniek Lev von Rosental sold Hodowicz and Vidov to Wok II von Rosenberg , who added them to his rule in Wittingau . A silver ore deposit was discovered in the 16th century. After the death of Peter Wok von Rosenberg , the inheritance of the Rosenbergs fell to the Lords of Schwanberg in 1611 . After the Battle of the White Mountain , Peter von Schwanberg's property was confiscated and fell to the emperor. From 1660 the property of the Wittingau rule belonged to the Lords of Schwarzenberg . Silver mining, which had come to a standstill due to the Thirty Years' War, was resumed at the end of the 18th century. In 1817, the St. Johannes Nepomuk ( Svatý Jan Nepomucký ) coal mine went into operation in the Hodějovický potok valley between Hodowitz and Strups .

In 1840 Hodowitz consisted of 52 houses with 334 German-speaking residents. The Carolina silver mine was operated in the corridors of the village . The village was parish to the Budweiser Cathedral St. Nicholas. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Wittingau rule.

After the abolition of patrimonial Hodowitz / Hodovice formed from 1850 with the districts Hůrka / Hurka near Zborow and Vidov / republic as well as the settlement Škarda a municipality in the district administration Budějovice / Budweis. 1869 took Emperor Franz Joseph Railway on the railway Budweis - Gmund operation and led initially without stopping at Hodowitz over. Vidov was reassigned to Plav in 1895 ; Hůrka broke up in 1914 and formed its own community. In 1900 the church of the Virgin Mary was consecrated in Hodowitz. To the northwest of the village, the Neu Hodowitz settlement was built on the road to Budweis at the beginning of the 20th century . In 1910 the municipality of Hodowitz / Hodovice had 798 inhabitants, including 480 Germans and 315 Czechs. In 1924 the official Czech place name was changed to Hodějovice . The settlement Nové Hodějovice / Neu Hodowitz grew rapidly and in 1930 already consisted of 84 houses with 538 inhabitants. In 1938 the Church of the Virgin Mary Queen of Angels was consecrated in Nové Hodějovice. On January 1, 1957, Nové Hodějovice was separated from Hodějovice as a separate municipality, which was renamed Staré Hodějovice by order of the Interior Ministry . At the beginning of 1960 Škarda was separated from Staré Hodějovice and umgemeindet to Srubec .
