history

The first written mention of Knyezie clada took place in 1318, when Jindřich von Žimutice overwrote the village together with Žimutice his wife Anka. The place name is interpreted by Profous on the one hand (kněz / priest) as a former property of the Archdiocese of Prague and on the other hand (kláda / tree trunk) as a reference to a prominent tree. Since 1396 a distinction is made between the two villages Kniezekladie superiori ( Horní Kněžeklady ) and Kniezekladie inferiori ( Dolní Kněžeklady ). Horní Kněžeklady was subsequently always connected with Žimutice. In 1661 Johann Adolf I von Schwarzenberg bought the Žimutice estate and added it to the Wittingau estate . After he had also acquired the rule of Bzí in 1672, he combined both goods. In 1840 there was Ober Knjžeklad / Hornj Knjížeklada or Hořegsska from 9 houses with 67 inhabitants. The rectory was Schimutitz . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to Gut Bzy, which was part of the Wittingau dominion.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Horní Knížeklady / Upper Knescheklada 1850 a district of the municipality Štipoklasy in the district administration and the judicial district of Tyn nad Vltavou / Moldau Thein. In 1910 there were 147 Czech-speaking residents in Horní Knížeklady / Ober Knižeklad . The current place name Horní Kněžeklady has been used since 1924. By order of the occupying forces, a voluntary fire brigade with 50 members was formed in the municipality of Štipoklasy / Stipoklas in 1943. However, the first fire engine was only delivered after the end of the war in 1946. In 1950, a syringe house with an attached cultural center was built in Horní Kněžeklady. After the Okres Týn nad Vltavou was abolished, the place was assigned to the Okres České Budějovice in 1961. From January 1, 1976 Horní Kněžeklady formed one of 17 districts of the large municipality Žimutice. After a referendum, Horní Kněžeklady broke up with Dolní Kněžeklady and Štipoklasy on November 24, 1990 from Žimutice and formed their own municipality for the first time.

Most of the inhabitants call Horní Kněžeklady for short as Horejška and Dolní Kněžeklady as Dolejška .
