The U Kazu (548 m) rises to the southwest.

Neighboring towns are Konířův Mlyn, Lišov and Slabce in the north, Hvozdec , Štěpánovice and Skalice in the Northeast, Vlkovice the east, Slavošovice, Mladošovice and Petrovice in the southeast, Ledenice and Zaliny in the south, Ovčín, Kaliště and Jednota in the southwest, Ortvínovice, Hlincová Hora and Vyhlídky in the west and Jivno , Sviní Luka and Samoty in the northwest.

history

The first written evidence of the place came in 1357, when the Vladike Nedamir de Zwyekowecz ( Nedamír ze Zvíkovce ) hacked on a document. The Vladiken von Zwikowecz descended from the Vladiken von Harachy and belonged to the ancestors of the Harrach counts . From 1362 the estate belonged to Nedamir's son Wilhelm ( Vilém ). He was followed by his brother Jesko ( Ješek ), who is recorded as a burgrave at the Příběnice Castle from 1388 to 1389 . Nikolaus von Zwikowecz ( Mikuláš ze Zvíkovce ) , who was in the service of the Lords of Rosenberg , was one of the subsequent owners . At the end of the 14th century the Lords of Zwikowecz had a stone fortress built on which - probably after completion - a stone plaque with the year 1406 was attached. During the reign of King Vladislav II Jagiello , the fortress belonged to Georg Magnus von Bresnitz ( Jiří Majnuš z Březnice ), then his daughter Elisabeth ( Eliška ), the wife of Hermann Lhotsky von Zasmuk ( Heřman Lhotský ze Zásmuk ). In 1539 Peter V. von Rosenberg bought the village of Zwikowecz and added it to his rule Wittingau . However, Andreas Ungnad zu Sonnegg acquired the fortress and became part of the Frauenberg rulership . In the Rosenberg land register from 1555, 15 farmers with nine hooves of land are listed as Wittingau subjects. In 1611 the Passau war people , a mercenary army of Prince-Bishop Leopold von Passau , who plundered and murdered the property of Peter Wok von Rosenberg , invaded the area, devastated the Rudolfstadt mines, burned Zaliny down on April 23, 1611 and plundered on April 4. and June 9th Lišov .

At the beginning of the Thirty Years' War in 1618 the estate army under Heinrich Matthias von Thurn besieged the Catholic Budweis for two months . While Budweis stood at the side of Emperor Matthias , both Dietrich Malovec from Malovice on Frauenberg and Peter von Schwanberg on Wittingau supported the rebellious estates. On June 15, 1619, the imperial general Charles Bonaventure de Longueval, Comte de Bucquoy conquered Rudolfstadt and left the mountain town to be reduced to rubble for treason. In the battle at Jivno between the rebels and the imperial forces, 70 men were killed. Probably at the same time, Bucquoy also devastated the villages of Zvíkov, Jivno and Lhotky as well as the Vstuhy estate, which belonged to the Protestant Sigismund von Sudeta ( Zikmund ze Sudetů ). The burned down villages of Lhotky, Vstuhy and Ortvínovice were never rebuilt. After the defeat in the Battle of White Mountain , Wittingau became the center of the rebels, which resisted the attacks of the imperial troops until March 1622. Thereafter the goods of Dietrich Malovec von Malovice and Peter von Schwanbergs were confiscated. The latter, including the Zwikowecz Fortress, fell to the Habsburgs , who carried out the Counter-Reformation . During the fighting, 13 of the 15 farmsteads were burned down, and the fortress was also described as desolate in 1628.

A sheep farm ( Ovčín ) was later built in place of Vstuhy . In 1651 the village had 53 inhabitants. The original diminutive form Zwikowecz ( Zvíkovec ) was replaced by the new place name Zwikow in the 17th century. Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria ceded the rule of Wittingau to the counts and later princes of Schwarzenberg in 1660 . In 1718 Adam Franz Fürst zu Schwarzenberg abolished the Vorwerk Zwikow and sold its land to subjects. The farmer Jakub Tvrzák, who had acquired the old fortress with it, had its third floor removed before 1751. In 1840 Zwikow consisted of 34 houses with 250 inhabitants. The parish was Stiepanowitz . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Urtinowitz farm belonging to the Wittingau domain.

After the abolition of patrimonial Zvikov / Zwikow formed from 1850 with the districts Hvozdec, Urtinovice and Zaliny a municipality in the district administration Budějovice / Budweis and the judicial district Lišov / Lischau. Zaliny broke up in 1868 and formed its own community. In 1901 a school house was inaugurated, before lessons took place in Štěpánovice. The voluntary fire brigade was founded in 1908. Together with Vlkovice, the municipality founded a water cooperative in 1909. In 1910 the community Zvikov / Zwikow had 492 Czech-speaking inhabitants, 326 people lived in the district of the same name. In 1921 the village consisted of 45 houses and had 340 inhabitants. In 1922, Hvozdec also broke up. In 1930, 314 people lived in Zvíkov's 45 houses. During the German occupation , Hvozdec and Zaliny were forcibly incorporated into municipalities in 1943; this was repealed in 1945. On June 12, 1960 Hvozdec was incorporated again and on June 14, 1964 Vlkovice. Zvíkov and its districts were incorporated into Lišov on April 1, 1976. After a referendum, Zvíkov broke away from Lišov on November 24, 1990 and has since formed its own community.
