geography

Střížov is located on a ridge that drops to the north to the valley of the Zborovský creek, to the southeast to the Želno and Lomecký potok, to the south to the Stropnice valley and west to the Malsch valley. In the northeast rises the Strážkovický vrch (558 m) and east the Střížovská planá hora or Planá (514 m).

Neighboring towns are Žárský, U Chárů, Borovnice and Nová Ves in the north, Lomec in the northeast, Strážkovice and Řevňovice in the east, Komařice in the southeast, Pašinovice in the south, Dolní Stropnice and Uše in the southwest, Bačkovák, Straňany and Doudleby in the west as well as Hastleby Zahrádka, Plav and Heřmaň in the north-west.

history

Střížov was created as a Slavic round on a hill above the Doudleby Castle. The village probably originated between the 9th and 10th centuries when the center of the Dúdlebi tribe was in the area. It is assumed that the residents of Střížov and Strážkovice, where there was a watchtower on the Strážkovický vrch, performed guard duty to protect the Doudlebyer Land and the Weitraer Steige because of the exposed location of the villages.

The first written mention of the place took place in 1263, when Jeruzlab de Strizendorf ( Jaroslav ze Střížova ) appeared as a witness during the sale of the village Záboří to the Hohenfurth monastery . Conasch de Strizendorf ( Kunáš ze Střížova ) has been traceable since 1274, and in 1286 he also appeared as a witness when the patronage rights in Stropnice were donated to the Hohenfurt Cistercians. The first news about the church in Strizov came in 1316 when Nikolaus von Pasovary left her interest income from Hůrka. It is certain that Jan Žižka of Trocnov was baptized in the church , according to the local chronicle this should have happened in 1359. From 1368 the village was called Strziezow , 1399 as Strziessow , 1405 as Stressow and 1415 as Strzyezyow . Since the end of the 14th century the village belonged to the possessions of the Lords of Landstein ; in 1389 Wilhelm von Landstein († 1398) held the church patronage. After his death, the property fell to his daughter Katharina ( Kateřina ), who was under the tutelage of Henry III. von Rosenberg and Odolen von Pyšely. In 1407 they sold the lordship for their ward for 300 shock Prague groschen to the Burgrave of Krumlov Ondřej of Vlčetín and the Burgrave of Příběnice Jindřich von Vyhnanice, who in the same year sold the property to the Cistercian monastery Hohenfurth. The Cistercians thus also received patronage over the parish church. It was first mentioned as St. Martin's Church in a document from 1460, when Beneš von Komářice donated an annual shock payment to the church for his and his ancestors and Oldřich von Pašínovice's salvation. Other forms of the village's name were Driessendorf (1530), Strzizow (from 1563) and Driesendorf (1789). In 1623, the Hohenfurth monastery bought the neighboring Komarzitz estate from Tiburtius Korzensky von Tereschau and from it formed the Komarzitz estate by buying up additional goods. However, Driesendorf was not attached to the monastery property, but remained under direct monastery administration. In 1840, 222 Czech-speaking residents lived in the 39 houses in Střižow / Driesendorf, including the Ruska mill. In the village there was a parish and a school under the patronage of the monastery. Střížov was a parish village for Borovnice , Doubravice , Hůrka, Jedovary, Komařice , Lomec, Nedabyle , Nová Ves , Pašinovice, Řevňovice, Sedlo, Stradov, Strážkovice , Veselka and Záluží . Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to the Hohenfurth monastery.

After the abolition of patrimonial Střižow / Driesendorf formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration Budějovice / Budweis. In 1914 there were 371 Czechs living in the village. From 1938 on, the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star exercised church patronage in Driesendorf. In 1948 the community was added to the newly formed Okres Trhové Sviny, which was repealed twelve years later. At the beginning of 1961, Střížov was assigned to the Okres České Budějovice. On July 1, 1985 it was incorporated into Strážkovice . Since November 24, 1990 Střížov has again formed its own municipality.

In the course of the Josephine reforms , the pilgrimage church was closed in 1780 and sold for demolition in 1787 for 50 guilders.
