Shane Peacock (born July 7, 1973 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player with German nationality who last played for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Shane Peacock, who has been playing ice hockey since he was four, began his professional career in 1989 with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the Canadian youth league WHL . The right-handed shooter, whose nickname is "The Chief" due to his Indian origins, played there for five years and became one of the best offensive defenders in the league. In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , the right- shooter was drawn in 60th place by the Pittsburgh Penguins . After leaving the Junior League in 1994, Peacock joined the Kalamazoo Wings in the International Hockey League . After the defender had not got a contract with an NHL team in three years in the minor league , he decided to move to Europe.
For the 1997/98 season Shane Peacock moved to the DEL for Düsseldorfer EG , after whose withdrawal from the DEL in 1998 he signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies . Due to his good performance in the following season, the newly founded Munich Barons took notice of the defender and signed him for the 1999/00 season . Already in the first season Peacock became German champions with the Barons . The Canadian was honored as the best defender in the league, a year later he reached the final again with the team from Munich , but there they lost to the Adler Mannheim . Peacock was elected DEL All-Star after outstanding performance, especially in the play-offs . After another year in Munich, the Canadian decided to switch to the then reigning German champion Kölner Haie . Although he was runner- up with Cologne in the 2002/03 season, he moved to the Barons successor Hamburg Freezers after only one year on the Rhine . There the right-wing shooter was one of the top performers in the defense for three years before he signed a one-year contract with the Frankfurt Lions for the 2006/07 season . In the summer break of 2006, Peacock received German citizenship . In the 2007/08 season , the defender signed a one-year contract with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . There he made his 400th scorer point on January 4, 2008, which makes him the best defender in the history of the DEL alongside Mirko Lüdemann .
