Verena Altenberger (born November 11, 1987 in Schwarzach im Pongau ) is an Austrian actress .

Life

Verena Altenberger grew up in the state of Salzburg in Dorfgastein , Hallein and Oberalm . She spent part of her youth at Winkl Castle , her mother was the director of the Winklhof agricultural school there . At the age of 18 she went to Vienna to study acting and first auditioned at the Max Reinhardt Seminar , where she was not accepted. Therefore, she began a bachelor's degree in journalism and communication studies at the University of Vienna , which she successfully completed. From September 2011 she studied drama at the Music and Art University of the City of Vienna , and in June 2015 she also successfully completed this degree.

In 2010/11 she was part of the Junge Burg Ensemble at the Vienna Burgtheater , where she appeared in the title role in Alice in Wonderland , as Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde and as Isolde Weißhand in Tricky Love - Tristan und Isolde . In the 2013/14 season she played the role of Lore at the Burgtheater in Puss in Boots . In 2015 she was on stage at the Volkstheater Wien in haben in the role of Rozí.

Movie and TV

In the television series CopStories she played the role of Chantal from 2013 to 2018, in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation she had a short scene in 2014 as assistant to the Vienna State Opera director . In 2016 she got the title role in RTL - sitcom Magda does it! in which she plays a Polish geriatric nurse. Filming for the second season began in June 2017 and the third season in May 2018. For her role as Magda she was nominated for the German Comedy Award in the category Best Actress / Best Actor in 2017 .

For the lead role in The Best of All Worlds , she was awarded the Diagonale Acting Prize in 2017 and best actress at the Moscow International Film Festival . In this film by Adrian Goiginger , she played a heroin addict who tries to overcome her addiction and hide from her son, played by Jeremy Miliker , whom she loves more than anything and to whom she wants to be the best possible mother. The film premiered at the Berlinale 2017 and was awarded the Kompass-Perspektive-Förderpreis.

In the ServusTV feature film documentary The Makemakes in Hollywood - On the Trail of The Sound of Music (2017), she can be heard as the narrator. In autumn 2017 she stood in front of the camera for the ORF / BR / ARTE drama Das Wunder von Wörgl in the role of Rosa Unterguggenberger at the side of Karl Markovics , directed by Urs Egger . At the beginning of 2018 she shot under David Schalko for M - Eine Stadt sucht eine Mörder , in April 2018 she was in front of the camera for the historical drama Ein Dorf defends itself - the secret of Altaussee , a co-production by ZDF, ORF and Arte.

In August 2018 it was announced that she would succeed Matthias Brandt in the crime film series Polizeiruf 110 . With the episode The place from which the clouds come , she took on the role of the Munich investigator Elisabeth "Bessie" Eyckhoff . In the third season of the crime series SCHULD based on Ferdinand von Schirach , she played the role of Sheryl.

In September 2019, she shot the documentary Virginia - The unsolved riddle of the Salzburg Mafia Bride about Virginia Hill, produced by Adrian Goiginger and Peter Wildling, alongside Michael Dangl as Hans Hauser for ServusTV , directed by Sascha Köllnreiter . In the Arte television thriller Die Spur der Murder (2019) she played alongside Heino Ferch as SOKO chief investigator Ingo Thiel, Interpol investigator Carla Orlando. At the end of 2019, she stood in front of the camera at the side of Maxim Mehmet for the filming of the ORF / BR comedy Schöne Schlamassel by Wolfgang Murnberger , in which she embodied the bookseller Anne, who was enthusiastic about Judaism. In February 2019 she was a guest on the Ö3 broadcast Breakfast with me by Claudia Stöckl and in December 2019 on Wir sind Kaiser .
