Winkl Castle

The Winkl Castle is a former noble residence in Oberalm in Hallein ( Austria ).

history

The first documented owners were the families of those von Wispeck , who had the property built around 1500. In 1582, however, the castle was sold to the Vizedom zu Landshut Nothracht von Wernburg zu Wackerstein from Bavaria . In 1657 Franz Dückher von Hauslau acquired the property. The castle then changed hands several times until it was bought by the Salzburg State Fund in 1902 and converted into a school.

From then on, the estate was used as an agricultural school ; in addition to the castle grounds, the Mesnerbauerngut, Wiesenbauerngütl and Sattelalm on Tauglboden were acquired. It now bears the name Winklhof . Every year in August there is a castle festival in the courtyard, where traditional products are sold and handicrafts such as woodturning are demonstrated.

building

The boys ' dining room and boarding house are now in the castle , while the girls' rooms are in the HWS building. The company also has various stables for cows, pigs, sheep, poultry and until 2007 also rabbits and guinea pigs. The associated Wiesenhof is currently leased and serves as a riding school. In 2007 the new, modern gymnasium was completed as a separate building. The horse stable used to stand in its place, and the animals were moved to a new dwelling at the Wiesenhof.

In 2014, Winkl Castle was expanded to include a boarding wing with two classes.

The company also has a dairy and a cheese factory . The in-house products are offered for sale twice a week at the Winklhof farmers' market .

In 2007 the long-time Winklhof director Gerhard Danter also retired, his successor in this position was Andrea Altenberger (* 1966; † 2015), mother of actress Verena Altenberger .
