occupation

CopStories is an Austrian television series that was shown on ORF eins from March 5, 2013 to February 19, 2019 . The idea for the series comes from the Netherlands . It is a remake of the television series Van Speijk , which was produced in three seasons in the Netherlands between 2006 and 2007. In CopStories , however, the scripts were adapted to Austrian conditions.

action

The series takes place in the 16th Viennese district Ottakring . The focus is on the often tough everyday work of Austrian police officers, the realistic representation of criminal cases, but also the private life of those involved. Often the problems are caused by the fact that Vienna is a particularly highly multicultural city, in which people from different countries come together with value systems that sometimes differ considerably from one another.

production

The series is produced by Gebhardt Productions GmbH . The shooting of the first season took place between June and September 2012 in Vienna and the surrounding area. As already mentioned, the inspiration for the series comes from the Netherlands. Even some names were adopted. This is how the departmental inspector Altan Uslu is also called Altan Uslu in the Dutch version. Tina Zonderland became Tina Zauner and Sylvester Daals simply became Sylvester Thaler in Austria.

A second season was shot in 2013 and a third season in 2014. The broadcast of the 2nd season started on September 30, 2014 at 9:05 p.m. on ORF Eins. In May 2015, the shooting of the fourth season began.

The third and fourth seasons were completed in 2014 and 2015, respectively, but the broadcast was postponed for the time being for accounting reasons, as the costs for a production will only be recognized in the balance sheet in the year of broadcast and there was insufficient playback budget until 2017 .

In December 2016, the first CopStories feature film was made under the direction of Barbara Eder, entitled Silent Night , which was first broadcast on ORF on December 17, 2019.

The third season was shown for the first time on August 14, 2018 on ORF eins. Directed by Michi Riebl , Christopher Schier and Umut Dağ .
