Barbara Eder (* 1976 in Eisenstadt ) is an Austrian film and television director and screenwriter .

Life

Barbara Eder grew up in Leithaprodersdorf and Seibersdorf and attended the Theresianum Eisenstadt . In 1994/95 she graduated from high school in Texas , USA . In 1995/96 she studied English and journalism at the University of Vienna . From 1998 to 2008 she studied directing at the Film Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

She has been working as a freelance director and writer since 2002. In 2006 she designed a portrait of Harald Serafin for ORF , in which she accompanied him on a cruise. Her first feature film Inside America , for which she was responsible for the direction and screenplay, was awarded the special jury prize at the 2011 Max Ophüls Prize film festival .

In 2016 she shot the first CopStories feature film for ORF alongside the Tatort episode Virus . In 2017 she continued with Her mit der Marie! her second crime scene episode in scene. In 2018 she shot the six-part spy film West of Liberty for ZDF and Sveriges Television . For Netflix , she is shooting the series The Barbarians , the story of the battle between the Germanic tribes and the Roman army , in 2019 .

Barbara Eder is a member of the Academy of the Austrian film , in association film directing Austria and the Austrian Directors Association .
