Austrian Film Director Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Verband Filmregie Österreich was founded in 1989 by film directors under the name of the Association of Austrian Film Directors to represent their interests in politics. The name was changed in 2006 because the majority of the members wanted a gender-neutral name for their association.

In contrast to the Austrian Directing Association (ADA) , directors of feature-length films are primarily represented in the Association of Austrian Film Directors. With its more than 130 members (as of January 2020), the association represents almost all filmmakers who have shaped and are shaping the newer Austrian feature films and documentary films. The association sees its task in contributing the knowledge and experience of its members in matters of cultural policy, in shaping the framework conditions for Austrian film in a meaningful way and in promoting and maintaining both its international success and its acceptance by the domestic audience.

The association is represented in the umbrella organization of Austrian filmmakers with a seat and a voice, and also in a number of other bodies in the industry and in Austrian cultural policy.

The board members since June 2019 are: Sebastian Brameshuber , Veronika Franz , Tereza Kotyk , Stephan Richter , Lukas Rinner , Elisabeth Scharang and Arash T. Riahi (Austrian Film Commission).
