history
In 1881 Sisters of the Divine Redeemer (Niederbronn Sisters) came from Sopron to Eisenstadt Oberberg and worked for orphans and sick people. In the course of the conquest of Burgenland in 1921, the Sopron sisters broke up and became their own Austrian province. In 1921 they opened a three-class primary school for girls in the Margaretinum Provincial House . The foundation stone for the Theresianum schoolhouse was laid on November 9, 1933 by provost pastor Julius Polak and a secondary school for girls was provisionally started in the Margaretinum in the same year and opened by Cardinal Theodor Innitzer , the Apostolic Administrator for Burgenland and Archbishop of Vienna . In 1934 the Theresianum was opened as a school center with an elementary school, secondary school, a one-year housekeeping school and a kindergarten.
When Austria was annexed to Nazi Germany in 1938, all schools at Theresianum were closed and the sisters had to leave the house and a state high school for boys was run in the building . At the end of the war in 1945, the school building was used as a hospital.
In September 1945 the sisters were able to start again with two classes at a secondary school for girls in the Theresianum. Furthermore, the teacher training institute in the Theresianum, which ran from 1924 to 1938 in Steinberg , was restarted in 1945 and the secondary school served as a practice school. The one-year home economics school was converted into a three-year home economics school in 1946/1947. After the war, the school building was expanded by expanding the attic floor and in 1954 by an extension. The elementary school, which has also been for boys since 1952, was relocated to the Propsteigebuilding - today the House of Meeting Eisenstadt . In 1958 a large extension was started according to the plans of the architect Robert Kramreiter . The school chapel was consecrated in 1962. In 1963 the new school building and the monastery wing were completed. In 1971, the teacher training institute was replaced by a music-pedagogical secondary school and in 1976 named Oberstufenrealgymnasium (ORG).
