The House of Encounter Eisenstadt is an educational center of the Eisenstadt diocese in the state capital Eisenstadt in Burgenland . The former Propsteigebuilding is a listed building

history

The building was initially a poor house. After a second Franciscan monastery was founded in Eisenstadt, the poor house was adapted from 1711 and used as a monastery building. From 1757 to 1766 the monastery building was rebuilt or rebuilt. After the monastery was dissolved in the course of the Josephine reforms in 1787 , the castle provosty was housed in it from 1794 (seat of the pastor of the parish of Schlossgrund-Oberberg). At the beginning of the 20th century the building served as a barracks, then the boys' seminar founded in 1933 was housed in it, and later it was used as a school home. After 1945 the Chamber of Commerce and the State Fire Brigade Command and many other institutions were housed here. 1963 gave Prince Esterházy Paul V in the course of patronage stripping the house of the Diocese of Eisenstadt. This had the building renovated from 1967 and after the renovation was completed, the solemn blessing by Bishop Stefan Laszlo as a house of meeting took place on November 11, 1969 .

Fire brigade courses were also held in this building for 20 years until the state fire brigade school opened in Eisenstadt in 1968.

Another extensive renovation took place from 1997 to 1998.

The large four-wing building around a square courtyard has an unadorned facade. There is a small Esterházy coat of arms above the street-side gate . There is also a small Esterházy coat of arms on the square turret with a curved gable at the entrance gate. The rooms of the building are partly cross vaulted and partly barrel vaulted. The Bildungshaus has a chapel, which was consecrated to the canonized Edith Stein .
