Beloved Johann Geliebte Anna is the title of an Austrian feature film from 2009. It was directed by Julian Pölsler , and Knut Boeser wrote the script together with Julian Pölsler. The film is shown on ZDF under the title Anna and the Prince .

The film tells the love story between Archduke Johann , the brother of the ruling Habsburg monarch , and Anna Plochl , a girl from the people.

Archduke Johann and the postmaster's daughter Anna Plochl get to know each other in Styria . You start writing and want to get married. But Anna's father has provided another man for her, and the emperor wants to marry Johann off politically. When the newspapers spread that Johann was going to marry a princess from Württemberg, Anna followed him. Johann promises to marry her again. When the emperor, under the influence of Metternich, declared the marriage license to be invalid, Johann brought his housewife to his lands and into his company in order to show the whole world how unjust and merciless the emperor was. Anna and Johann do not live together like husband and wife, and Anna is noticeably lonely. At the same time, Johann is politically committed to his country, Styria. It is the long separations that almost doomed the lovers. To escape the loneliness, Anna attends a carnival event and breaks into the ice on a lake. She falls seriously ill and a friend brings Johann Anna's will, he realizes how much she loves him. After Anna is well again, Johann gives his imperial brother an ultimatum, and the two can secretly say yes to each other at night.

The film was shot from June to September 2009 in the Salzkammergut , Hochschwab area , Graz , Vienna , Salzburg and Klosterneuburg and is a co-production by ORF , Epo-Film and Opal Filmproduktion . It was supported by the State of Styria , Cinestyria , the City of Graz and the Vienna Film Fund, among others . The film premiered in the auditorium of the University of Graz on December 10th and was broadcast on ORF 2 on December 30th, 2009 (38 percent national market share, most successful Austrian TV film in 2009). The production costs were 2.7 million euros. 3sat broadcast the film on August 15, 2010 as part of its portrayal of Mythos Habsburg .

The ZDF first broadcast the film under the changed title Anna and the Prince and in a slightly shortened version on August 21, 2011.

Prices

In 2010, the film won Austria's most important film and TV prize Romy in the categories of director, camera and production.
