Johann Baptist Zahlbruckner (born February 15, 1782 in Vienna , † April 2, 1851 in Graz ) was an Austrian botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ J.Zahlbr. "

Life

Zahlbruckner studied economics and natural sciences in Vienna. In 1808 Archduke Johann gave him the task of organizing his natural history collection. Two years later he entrusted him with the administration of the Thernberg estate . From 1818, Zahlbruckner was Archduke Johann's private secretary; He helped the Archduke found the Imperial and Royal Agricultural Society and took over its management. Zahlbruckner was Archduke Johann's constant companion on his travels in the Alpine countries.

Zahlbruckner's daughter Maria was the wife of Peter Tunner , the botanist Alexander Zahlbruckner is his grandson.

Honors

The plant genus Zahlbrucknera Rchb. of the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae) has been named after him.
