Sarı Gelin
Sarı Gelin ( Azerbaijani : Sarı Gəlin - 'Blonde Bride', Turkish : Sarı Gelin , Armenian : Սարի աղջիկ , Persian : ساری گلین , Arabic العروس الصفراء ) is a popular folk song in Azerbaijan , Turkey , Armenia , Iran and Iraq . It is unknown whether the title “Sarı Gelin” refers to the blonde hair of the bride or the color of the wedding dress. An alternative translation would be Bride of the Mountains , as the word Sar in Armenian means mountain.
It is not known which country the song actually comes from. It would be wrong to give an exact origin for this song, as the song cannot be assigned to any nation, among other things due to various interpretive approaches, caused by the inconclusive translation.
The folk song is very famous. The Azerbaijani text tells the story of a couple who cannot be together due to different ethnicities and religions: The Turkish Muslim falls in love with an Armenian Christian.
