The Beheaded Rooster is a novel by the German-speaking writer and prison pastor Eginald Schlattner, who lives in Romania . The novel was published in 1998 by Paul Zsolnay Verlag Vienna and was very well received by the German literary feuilletons . Because of the matter, there were also some controversial discussions and accusations from my own compatriots.

In the novel, today's prison pastor Eginald Schlattner comes to terms with his past in Transylvania at the time of the Third Reich . At a time when 16-year-old Felix and his friends are awaiting the Jewish death festival to celebrate their graduation, the focus is on betrayal by their best friend, childhood love and the exclusion of Jews by the Transylvanian Hitler Youth .
