Warning signal (book series)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Warning signal / e: ... is a scientific book series on global marine ecological, limnological and climatic topics. The first volume in the series was published in 1990. The volumes are published by José L. Lozán ( University of Hamburg ), most recently together with GEO magazine. In the paperback publications, scientists from various disciplines write articles on pressing current aspects of the topic.

background

The books in the series are designed as popular scientific information with a sound scientific background. The editors want to collect scientific facts from experts in order to warn of current developments in the destruction of nature and the environment. Due to the topicality of the contributions, recent developments are presented scientifically and alternative courses of action and projects are presented. The motto has always been "Scientists inform directly" and the aim was to provide the public with first-hand information.

The volume Warning Signals from the Wadden Sea in particular attracted a great deal of attention in specialist circles, as biological, ecological, environmental-chemical and direct environmental degradation was brought together in a current and independent status report on the “health” of the German Wadden Sea .

Authors

The authors of the contributions are scientists (e.g. from the Alfred Wegener Institute , the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research , the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology , the University of Hamburg , the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and other institutions) or those responsible in non-governmental organizations ( BUND , WWF and others). Around 1,500 scientists from around 350 institutions with around 750 contributions have so far participated.
