The fourth presentation of the Austrian Film Prize by the Academy of Austrian Films took place on January 22nd, 2014 in the auditorium of Grafenegg Castle ( Grafenegg ).

The event took place for the first time in Lower Austria in 2014, after the Odeon (2011), the Rosenhügel Film Studios (2012) and the City Hall (2013) in Vienna . As in previous years, the winners received trophies from Valie Export in the form of an ascending step-shaped spiral. The award ceremony was moderated by Karl Markovics , directed by Markus Schleinzer , the equipment designed by Gerhard Dohr and the lighting design by Dominik Danner in cooperation with Peter Dopplinger . The writer Franz Schuh contributed a “guest commentary” in the form of a speech. The governor of Lower Austria, Erwin Pröll , invited to the party following the award ceremony .

On the occasion of the awarding of the film prize , the media partner of the Academy of Austrian Films was once again the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation , which mainly broadcast films from Austrian production on ORF Eins , ORF 2 and ORF III . On the evening of the award ceremony, ORF 2 showed in his early 80s , Karl Merkatz was honored as best actor for the male lead in it at the 2013 Film Prize, and ORF III reported live from Grafenegg after a special edition of Kultur Heute and then showed Whores' Glory and nominated short films. For the first time, the evening before the award ceremony, a separate “Nominees' Evening” took place, to which the nominees, academy members and journalists were invited in a smaller group. At this informal meeting, moderated by Markus Schleinzer, in the city senate meeting room of the Vienna City Hall, all the nominees were presented "before all eyes are focused on the final winners at the award ceremony."

Submissions, criteria and nominations

Films could be nominated that had their theatrical release in Austria between December 1, 2012 and November 30, 2013, and films that were released in theaters between October 1, 2012 and November 30, 2012, but in the year Were not registered for the selection process in 2012.

Three nominees were chosen in each of the 14 categories. In order for a film to be nominated, at least two of these criteria had to be met in order to ensure “a significant Austrian cultural imprint”

  • the original version of the film is in German
  • the director comes from Austria or lives in Austria
  • the producer is Austrian or lives in Austria

The nominations were announced in December 2013.
