Hanna Schimek (* 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist.

Life

Hanna Schimek attended the graphic teaching and research institute in Vienna from 1967 to 1971 and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1972 to 1976 .

She works as a photographer, filmmaker, painter, draftsman, author and installation artist, among others . Schimek often works in an interdisciplinary manner and at the interface between art and research. Her topics include everyday life, human coexistence and travel. She also worked as a curator and was the artistic director of the Aegina Academy , an art and science event on Aegina in Greece . In 1981 the film artist Gustav Deutsch became her life partner. She was soon linked to an artistic collaboration with him. She is a member of the artist group “The Blue Compressor”.

Schimek's work has been shown at numerous exhibitions. Her book One Day Honey, One Day Onion was awarded Austria's most beautiful book in 2005. For the documentary Shirley - Visions of Reality , she and Gustav Deutsch received the Austrian Film Prize 2014 for the best production design .
