Architecture and history
Today's castle hotel was built in 1859 as a castle barracks. Before that, the Grätzelsche factory, which was active in the manufacture of cloth, was located here . The construction was managed by the district architect Carl Heinrich Frühling . The black hunters belonging to the body battalion of the Brunswick infantry regiment were housed in the barracks.
The result was a three-storey, simply designed building with a central risalit and grouped arched windows. On the gable was a lying lion made of zinc sheet , but it was removed in 1946. By the end of the 19th century, the complex was expanded to include a parade hall and a hospital in Hasselfelder Strasse . In 1918 the use as barracks ended for the time being. From 1926 it was used as a residential building and from 1933 as an off-road sports school. In 1935 the barracks were used again until 1945. In the post-war period, displaced persons were housed. Parts of it were also used later as apartments. Incidentally, a building school was housed, which was closed after the political change in 1989 . It was later converted into a hotel.
In the local register of monuments , the barracks is listed as a monument under registration number 094 00664 .
