Katharina Mückstein (* 1982 in Vienna ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Katharina Mückstein was born as the daughter of the politician Eva Mückstein and grew up in Bad Vöslau . From 2000 to 2004 she studied philosophy and gender studies. She then completed a degree in directing at the Film Academy of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna until 2010 , with Michael Haneke , among others .

In 2010 she founded the work collective and production company La Banda Film together with Flavio Marchetti, Michael Schindegger and Natalie Schwager . Since 2011 she has been a member of the board of directors of FC Gloria - Women Networking Film to promote female filmmakers in Austria.

For her first long feature film Talea with Nina Proll and Sophie Stockinger in the leading roles, she was responsible for the direction and screenplay and was awarded the Saarland Prime Minister's film prize for best director at the 2013 Max Ophüls Prize . In 2016 she worked again with Sophie Stockinger in a leading role for her second feature film, the coming-of-age drama L'Animale . The film was invited to the Panorama section of the 2018 Berlinale .
