Jazra Khaleed

Jazra Khaleed (born May 21, 1979 in Grozny , Soviet Union ) is a Greek author .

Life

Jazra Khaleed is the son of a Chechen woman and a Greek. His family moved to Athens in 1983 , where he attended school from 1985. In 1994 the family moved to Munich , where Khaleed graduated from a Greek school in 1997. Back in Athens he studied communication science from 1997 to 2001. In 2007 Khaleed published his first poems. Numerous translations of poems and essays from German into Greek followed (including by Ann Cotten , Elfriede Jelinek , Keston Sutherland ). Since 2012 translations of texts by the protagonists of the literary underground of the GDR (including Stefan Döring , Matthias Baader Holst , Johannes Jansen , Frank Lanzendörfer , Bert Papenfuß-Gorek ). Since 2010 regular publications of his poems in international journals and magazines; in Germany a. a. in the following publications: "Abwärts!", die horen , "DreckSack", "floppy myriapoda" and in the anthology "twelve lines down" and in the "Schock Edition".

Precisely because his roots are in a different culture and language, he enriches the Greek poetry scene with new ideas and rhythms. His poetry is an indictment of the injustices in Greece today. Khaleed addresses the living conditions of migrants from Africa and the Middle East. He sees himself explicitly as an advocate of these social outsiders. Khaleed is editor of the literary magazine "Teflon". There, among other things, he publishes his own poems, translations and essays on a wide variety of topics (including Aboriginal poetry and hip-hop). His poems have appeared in English in World Literature Today, Modern Poetry in Translation and Words Without Borders. You can also listen to his texts in German on the Internet.

Jazra Khaleed was hailed as a discovery at the Athens Poetry Festival 2010. Since then participation in various poetry festivals; In 2014 he won first prize at the Berlin “SOUNDOUT! Festival for New Ways of Presenting Literature ”.

In Germany in 2015 the band "Jazra Khaleed" appeared in the edition POESIE SCHMECKT GUT in the series "Versensporn" with 26 poems and a mini-DV with the award-winning short film "The Aegean or The Asshole of Death" (2014) by Eleni Gioti and Jazra Khaleed.

Jazra Khaleed lives in the Exarchia district in Athens.
